About Bas Bleu - History
The Bas Bleu Theatre Company (BBTC) opened in 1992 with the objective of presenting quality productions in an intimate “salon” theatre. Since its first outburst of creative energy from two imaginative risk-takers, artistic director Wendy Ishii and her earliest collaborator Eva Wright, Bas Bleu has produced, performed, exhibited or hosted over 450 events for a total of more than 1,000 performances serving more than 32,000 patrons and involving over 2,100 artists, performers, writers, designers and technicians.
The New Bleu Interim Theatre at 401 Pine Street, literally steps away from our previous home, will allow us to maintain Bas Bleu’s hallmark intimate salon theatre experience—a value that is deeply rooted in both the history and future of the Theatre. As in the past, we will continue to select bold and adventurous works that both entertain and inform as well offer post-show discussions with panels of practicing artists and local experts in fields related to production content.
Our programs share laughter and pathos, while exploring the diverse cultures and common values that strengthen a sense of community on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains . Bas Bleu is proud of its synergistic relationship with the educational institutions in the area and consistently collaborates with local high schools, colleges and universities. The faculty and students of Colorado State University have been particularly integral to the success of Bas Bleu, while guest artists recruited from all over the country have conducted workshops and master classes that are of community-wide benefit.
We hope you enjoy the many varied theatre experiences we offer at Bas Bleu!
