5 Reasons to Support Your Local Fort Collins Theatre

|

“Theatre fires the imagination, it gives our children the skills and the creativity necessary to face the world, to understand it and perhaps to change it too.” — Lyn Gardner

Community Theatre: these two words mean so much to us, but what does it mean to you? Have you ever considered the important role that local theatre plays in our community? Each season, Bas Bleu hosts a wide array of mainstage plays, readers’ theatres, concerts, improv, special events, and more. We firmly believe that art makes Community happen. Through storytelling, music, dance, visual art, and more, our community is enriched by the cultural experiences that our theatre provides.

Here are 5 reasons why Fort Collins Theatre is important:

  • Self-Improvement

Have you ever walked away from a powerful performance that stuck with you? Perhaps the play delivered a message that challenged your belief on a certain topic or made you question your role in the world. Theatre often tries to answer difficult questions that make us look inward, help us understand different perspectives and cultural views, or invite us to experience empathy in an entirely new way. It doesn’t matter if you’re on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience — when you participate in Fort Collins theatre you become part of a group of people who can work together to be better on individual and community levels.

  • Communicate Sensitive Topics

Now more than ever, we are surrounded by sensitive topics. Politics, religion, and racism are in the news every day, yet these topics are not easily discussed or agreed upon. Community theatre offers a venue to communicate difficult topics without the tension or hostility that may occur in a direct conversation. This follows the first topic of self-improvement well. Hopefully, you will leave a performance about a sensitive topic with a new perspective on the issue.

  • Support Local Artists

Many successful actors first took the stage in their hometown community theatre. Just by showing up and applauding, you’re supporting the dreams of aspiring thespians. You’re also helping many people, young and old, improve their self-esteem, build confidence in their craft and encourage a future in the arts.

  • Share Your Skills

Fort Collins Theatre needs more than just the actors to produce a fantastic play. We operate because people like you share your skills. Maybe you enjoy sewing costumes, painting or building a set or managing sound and lighting. These skills are necessary and valuable, and we love that community theatre supports passions of all kinds!

  • Be Part of the Future

When a community theatre is successful, we know with certainty that future generations of aspiring actors, playwrights, set designers, and more will have a place to perform, learn, grow, and have fun!

We strive to develop new artistic talent and engage new audiences by providing affordable access to our cultural activities. This season we took the bold step of lowering our ticket prices, shortening our mainstage runs to four weeks, and making room for additional events on our busy calendar. You can get in on the action a number of ways. Consider purchasing season tickets so you never miss a production, become a sustaining member through your donations, and visit our shows page to see what’s happening at Bas Bleu this season!! Thank you for supporting your local Fort Collins theatre!
