Jeffrey Bigger Headshot

Jeffrey Bigger is relatively new to Fort Collins, but in his short time here, he has made a name for himself at Bas Bleu Theatre Company. Jeffrey was recently seen as Robert in Boeing, Boeing last season, Vanya in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and he capped of the year as Scrooge in Tiny Tim’s Christmas Carol. Now, he’s taking on a new role at Bas Bleu Theatre Company – as Director of our newest production, Dirt, a Terra Nova Expedition

Jeffrey grew up in Illinois and studied Acting at Millikin University in Decatur. He has toured nationally with Theatre IV out of Richmond, VA, and acted and directed in Atlanta for CenterStage North Theatre and Out of Box Theatre. Here we learn a little about Jeffrey’s experience as director of Dirt.

Bas Bleu: What drew you to direct “Dirt”?

Jeffrey: I was originally set to co-direct Dirt. But with scheduling and conflicts, I was able to come on a director.  After I read the script the first time, I knew it was something that I would like to get my hands on. Laura, the playwright, created such a beautiful and rich world I immediately fell in love with the characters and the show. She has managed to weave a compelling story with science so you are being entertained while you are learning. I know the audiences will be as enthralled with the show, as I have been.

Bas Bleu: What have been the highlights of rehearsing this play?

Jeffrey: Watching it come to life and seeing the playwright watch her baby evolve. Seeing the actors find their characters and seeing those characters come to life has been equally thrilling. It is so nice to witness everything come together.

Bas Bleu: Has anything surprised you?

Jeffrey: I was surprised by how easy this process has been. I was a little nervous to work with the playwright. That is usually not something we get to do. But it has been a gift to have her there for clarity and insight!

Bas Bleu: What are some of your favorite lines from the show?

Jeffrey: I love the creation stories! Seeing the similarities across cultures is lovely and very educational. But my top favorite line is “We need to treat dirt like gold!”

Bas Bleu: What do you hope people take away from this play?

Jeffrey: I hope that people take away just how fragile our planet and ecosystems are and that we have to do everything we can to save and protect this jewel we are privileged to live on.

With three showtimes each week until May 6th, Dirt, a Terra Nova Expedition, is a must-see play. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time or at the box office. Join us for an exploration of survival, soil science, and environmental stewardship!
